Prevention Team – Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service

To assist in targeting support to those most vulnerable in our communities, the Prevention team at Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service have developed a Winter Warmth Campaign and will be supporting the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Cost of Living.

Prevention have successfully secured some funding from the Electrical Safety Fund to support the Home Fire Safety Visit (HFSV) service in making individuals safer and warmer in their homes this winter. The funding will be used to purchase a further stock of oil filled radiators and extension leads to support occupiers during the cost of living crisis and those who are currently in fuel poverty during the winter months.

In addition the Service has purchased a number of Winter Warmth Packs. These are also issued by Prevention Technicians when carrying out HFSVs for high risk members of the community who meet relevant criteria such as they cannot keep a warm home.

The core message being it’s better to heat the person not the home, and advice is given to assist in how to do this.. The Winter Warmth Packs are prepacked in a reusable bag and hold:

•             Fleece Blanket

•             Thermo Mug

•             Hat

•             Socks

•             Gloves

The Service will be sending out regular media messages to make communities aware of safety advice during the winter months and will be promoting the HFSV, as well as encouraging people to call the team or to complete the on-line Home Fire Safety Check.

To access any of the equipment outlined above individuals must be referred to the Prevention Team who will undertake a HFSV and will provide relevant equipment.

• Members of the community can complete an online Home Fire Safety Check for themselves or their friends / family. The form can be accessed via the Service website https://www.hwfire.org.uk/safety-and-advice/home-safety/hfsv/request-a-check/

• Alternatively, they can call the Prevention team on 0800 032 1155 where the skilled team can offer fire safety advice and take details to arrange a visit.
