Medical Student Training Practice

At Bewdley Medical Centre we are proud to support the University of Birmingham with medical student placements.  We have final year medical students that are near to completing their training to become doctors.  They come to the practice for a 5 week placement to experience general practice, seeing their own patients in fully supervised clinics.  They also have the opportunity to get experience of the nurse-led specialist clinics in asthma and diabetes, family planning clinics, minor ops list and get to understand the role of the visiting team and district nurses.  It is a great opportunity for our students to have one-to-one supervsion and get a real flavour of primary care and how we all work toegther to provide patient care.

Dr Kneebone and Dr Barth are the lead GPs for the medical students.

Medical Student Testimonials

"A great experience, plenty of chances to see a variety of presentations and practice independantly but with support.  All staff were helpful and friendly and I appreciated the opportunity to pursue my own interests.  A steep learning curve to begin with but definitely helped having tailored feedback and 1-1 sessions with my supervisor.  I would definitely recommend this placement to a friend."

"I would also like to thank the other members of staff at Bewdley Medical Centre for being so welcoming and supportive during my time there and allowing me to get the most out of my placement."

"Receiving feeback after most patients was extremely helpful.  The practice, at presenting patients, was brilliant."

"This was a fantastic placement.  All of my tutors gave me their time and attention after each of my consultations. They all gave me feedback."

"My tutor was excellent and was supportive and encouraging throughout the palcement.  I really felt that my tutor took a genuine interest in my learning and having observed me over 5 weeks was able to focus on the particular areas that would help me both now and in the future.  I think my tutor struck the right balance between being friendly and approachable and pushing me out of my comfort zone when I needed it.  I never felt GP was being forced on me as a career and was instaead shown the opportunities that it could present in the future if I wished to pursue it, and I felt this was a great advert for the speciatlity."

"Warm, approachable and keen to teach."
