Medical Student Training Practice

Bewdley Medical Centre are proud to be an accredited GP Training Practice with the University of Birmingham. This means the Practice may have attached to it doctors training to specialise in General Practice (GP Registrars) or Foundation Year Two doctors (FY2); you may therefore be offered an appointment with either of these doctors.

Both doctors will have spent at least 5 years at medical school to qualify as a doctor before commencing the 2 year foundation programme (previously known as house officers). The FY2 are in their second year of jobs and spend 4 months at the surgery. GP registrars have completed the 2 foundation years and have chosed to start a 3 year training programmes to become a GP and will be at Bewdley for 12 months.

They have opportunities to sit in a wide variety of clinics including nurse led clinics, physiotherapy, family planning and minor surgery and work together with the visiting team and district nurses. In addition to seeing their own patients in fully supervised clinics they have weekly tutorials.

Dr Elliott is the lead GP for GP trainees.

Medical Student Testimonials

"A great experience, plenty of chances to see a variety of presentations and practice independantly but with support.  All staff were helpful and friendly and I appreciated the opportunity to pursue my own interests.  A steep learning curve to begin with but definitely helped having tailored feedback and 1-1 sessions with my supervisor.  I would definitely recommend this placement to a friend."

"I would also like to thank the other members of staff at Bewdley Medical Centre for being so welcoming and supportive during my time there and allowing me to get the most out of my placement."

"Receiving feeback after most patients was extremely helpful.  The practice, at presenting patients, was brilliant."

"This was a fantastic placement.  All of my tutors gave me their time and attention after each of my consultations. They all gave me feedback."

"My tutor was excellent and was supportive and encouraging throughout the palcement.  I really felt that my tutor took a genuine interest in my learning and having observed me over 5 weeks was able to focus on the particular areas that would help me both now and in the future.  I think my tutor struck the right balance between being friendly and approachable and pushing me out of my comfort zone when I needed it.  I never felt GP was being forced on me as a career and was instaead shown the opportunities that it could present in the future if I wished to pursue it, and I felt this was a great advert for the speciatlity."

"Warm, approachable and keen to teach."
